Alliance for Digital Innovation Letter to OMB Encourages Risk-Based Approach to AI Safety

The Alliance for Digital Innovation sent a letter to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to request help and support from OMB to update and direct the efforts related to the implementation of its Memorandum 24-10 Advancing Governance, Innovation, and Risk Management for Agency Use of Artificial Intelligence. The letter identifies opportunities for OMB to adopt a risk-based approach that focuses on “high-risk” applications of AI; suggests the exemption of cybersecurity, network, data storage, and other routine enterprise IT functions from a “high-risk” designation; proposes that additional enterprise use-cases should similarly be exempted from a blanket categorization as a rights or safety-impacting system, such as cybersecurity or automated user-experience solutions; and requests additional clarification on other provisions.
