ADI Encourages Additional Funding and Congressional Oversight to Support NIST Cryptographic Module Validation Program and Eliminate Backlog

In a letter sent to Congressional Appropriations leaders, the Alliance for Digital Innovation expressed support for the National Institutes of Standards and Technology’s Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP) and advocated for additional funding, resourcing, and oversight to enable elimination of the current backlog of modules awaiting approval. In a world where our government agencies are continually targeted by America’s adversaries, those agencies must have the most up-to-date, secure technologies available. However, the CMVP backlog and compliance with the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140 often keep agencies from adopting secure technology in a timely manner. We urge Congress to act quickly to provide NIST with the resources they need while maintaining continued oversight of this critical program.
