The Alliance for Digital Innovation submitted comments on the acquisition, governance, and use of AI-enabled technology by public sector organizations to the Joint Commission on Technology and Science of the Virginia General Assembly. ADI encouraged the Commonwealth to take a risk-based approach to the use of AI by public sector organizations, to use definitions already adopted by organizations like the National Institutes of Standards and Technology, and to incorporate agile methods of procurement into its statutory and regulatory framework to encourage innovation in government services. ADI also urged legislators to avoid broad statutory prohibitions on the use of AI-enabled technology by local governments, to ensure that cybersecurity remains a focus when addressing AI-related policy issues, and to take additional steps to prepare the current public sector workforce to use AI-enabled government services responsibly and effectively.
