Statement from ADI on the White House’s Artificial Intelligence Policy Guidance

ADI applauds today’s White House announcement providing guidance to federal agencies regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI). While the new policies do not yet address government’s internal adoption of AI, the ten principles highlight America’s leading role in the development and use of AI and strongly support a lighter-touch regulatory approach that will help foster, rather that stifle, American innovation. ADI particularly appreciates the focus on continuing public participation throughout any rulemaking process, encouraging agencies to take a risk-based approach to the regulation and use of AI, and prioritizing the safety and security of citizen information used in the develop or use of AI by federal agencies.

Finally, the strong focus on transparency will encourage more thoughtful, robust dialogue between innovative commercial companies and federal agencies and, more importantly, build public trust in the AI technology itself. ADI members are some of the world’s leaders in AI and other emerging technologies. We look forward to supporting and expanding the Administration’s thoughtful approach to the regulation of AI, including the preparation of government-specific frameworks to drive a 21st century digital government and will continue to engage federal agencies to ensure that they are well-informed and prepared to support continued American leadership in AI.
